Return to die Schweiz

Vacation was relaxing, but now it's back to life. Quickly.

We were so excited to come home and start moving, or at least see some progress on our new house. Wrong. Our new walls project was pushed back by the company by almost two weeks! We were hoping they would start last week, have something done when we got here. Nope! Then we thought Monday for sure. Nope! Now we are hoping for work to begin next week. That's fine, except we have to be out of here around the 20th so work can be done to this apartment because the new tenants are moving in September 1! Sigh.

This weekend I am switching classrooms at school and trying to get everything done for that. Thomas is working on his thesis in the evenings too. It's hard to forget about all that has to be done so we can hang out with Addilyn and only work on stuff in the evening. Usually that works very well but our little girl has some jet lag. Last night went very well so maybe she is pushing through.

Now, I'll reminisce about the warm and sunny Nebraska-in no particular order

We celebrated Hadley and Benjamin's first birthday!

Thomas' parents came to Nebraska for a few days so they could go to Addilyn's Baptism. It was very nice of them to come. Once Thomas and I left, Walter and Lucie, started their road trip to South Dakota. We had a few days relaxing with them.

5 months!

The Haas family has made it home from the United States. What a long vacation we had! It feels really good to be back in my house with my things, but it's always very emotional for me saying goodbye. I usually have a moment the day before I leave and Thomas is the lucky one who gets to deal with me.

I really wanted to blog about the last half of our summer, so I started putting pictures on my computer. After uploading the 800+ pictures from the three cameras, I feel too overwhelmed to continue. I think my pictures have to be organized on my computer before I can do anything . . . So, I think I will spend tonight doing that and hopefully blog tomorrow!

I did want to share Addilyn's 5 month pictures though. She is just too cute. She has gained 3 pounds in one month! Is that a lot? I am just amazed by her and the progress she makes daily. She can now sit all by herself and isn't that wobbly anymore, her feet touch the ground in her exersaucer and jump-a-roo and everyday she can amuse herself for longer and longer.

It's getting a little tricky taking these pictures. She NEVER wants to lay down so we have to do them sitting up. That means she is moving all the time which makes almost all pictures blurry. And now she finds everything with her hands so the stickers on her onesie are no longer safe, as you can see in this picture.

Guess that's all for tonight! Check back soon for too many pictures of my wonderfully sweet angel!

Summer Life continued

Part One of this post is below so keep reading!

Let me see, I think I made it to Thomas' arrival in the previous post so I here I go!

Since he has been here, we have done some shopping (nothing new there), we celebrated our third anniversary, did a lot of swimming and introduced Addilyn to Great Grandma Hansen.

Our summer life

So, here I am. I am finally blogging from Nebraska. We have been having a great time and have been doing a lot of swimming. Our summer life is good.

Addilyn and I came to Nebraska on June 30th. We traveled with my parents so I had a lot of help. It went very well. I was nervous about having warm water for her formula but I was able to travel with two thermos' of water, which really helped. I held Addilyn during take-off and landing and held her while she played and ate, but when she slept, she slept in her own bassinet. The bassinet was attached to the wall in the airplane directly in front of us. When she was in it, there was a flap that went over it and snapped into place in case of turbulence. It was really smooth. She slept about five of the ten hours. The other five hours she was pretty happy flirting with those around us, playing or eating. She did great on her first airplane ride! By the time we made it to Georgia, my poor girl was just exhausted. She slept a little, ate and then conked out until Nebraska.

Funny story about that flight. I switched places with my dad in the plane so I could be by my mom for help and the flight attendant said I had to go to my original spot because there wasn't an oxygen mask there for a third person. As we were moving, another flight attendant walked back saying my name. He was looking for me so I could move up to first class. I said, "Yes please!" And I left my parents in the back. After that flight, Addilyn woke up to eat and then began the car ride, luckily she was out for the night. Shew, that was a lot of information!

We had about three nights of bad sleeping. She woke up from 2:30 to 4:30 the first three nights but after that went right back to her schedule, for the most part. Naps are still tough now and she falls asleep during her last bottle of the night but we are managing and she is still super happy so she must be getting enough sleep. So, onto our vacation.

Addilyn stood on U.S. soil for the first time in her life. I was one pround momma.

Addilyn has been doing a lot of scooting, backwards. I think crawling is coming very soon! She has also found her toes and can nearly sit up on her own. She is changing so much! I am enjoying this time with her tremendously!

So, I think that is all I can do for this evening. I will get back to this tomorrow or later this evening! Trust me, there are many more adorable pictures of our sweet little Addilyn and some of Thomas and I.

Oh yes, the day before we came to the United States, Addilyn went swimming in her new swimming pool!

I just can't resist!

One more blog before I leave for the United States. I just can't resist sharing these pictures!! My little girl is 4 months old! We had our doctor's appointment today and Addilyn is still doing great! She has dropped from the 50th percentile in weight to the 25th, which could be a concern but her length also dropped down to the 25th so she is still perfect. She also has a very large head for her age. Does that mean she is more Kohtz? I don't know!

She now weighs 12.2 pounds or 5530 grams and is 23.9 inches long or 60.7 cm. My little girl is growing up!

When we were in the hospital, a package arrived with this super cute Americana set. There was a blue knitted hat with white stars and a red and white knitted blanket. It was super cute, although we didn't know who it was from! After some investigtion, we found out it was from my wonderful friend Stephanie. The hat was kind of big, but it fits now! I LOVE it!!!!!

Addilyn will always be American!

And last thing. I just want to brag about my awesome school! Today was the water play day. The kids played in the water while the parents served the teachers lunch, wine, Proseco and fabulous desserts. It was a great afternoon and I feel oh so lucky to work at this school!

And we're off!

In four days we leave for Nebraska, I am so flipping excited! I still can't believe that my family and friends have not met my baby. Oh the humanity! These last few weeks, let's face it, since I returned back to work has been very difficult. My brain just isn't into it and neither is my heart. I really need to go home. Two months of summer fun sounds like just what I need.

Last week was a super busy week for both Thomas and I. I had parent teacher conferences and finishing up reports, Thomas was a little sick and still had to prepare for two Herzog dinners. I'm still recovering!

Friday afternoon, Herzog celebrated its 90 years in the business with a nice dinner buffet at the Historical museum in Bern. It was lovely!

Untitled

Saturday I was busy with school. We had the annual sports day where the kids race, jump rope and do other fun races. Then immediately following that, we have the end of the year school fair! My day started around 8:00 and I was finished around 3:00. It's hard working on a Saturday!

On Sunday, Herzog had a brunch for all of its employees. We all went and Addilyn did very well! By the time we made it home, Addilyn was in pieces. She was exhausted. We took a nap together and then all was right in the world. (I was especially happy to snuggle for a while!)

The day my parents arrived was Father's Day. We had a nice relaxing day.

Grandpa Kohtz is such a stud! He has made all of his grandkids a sweet little rocking chair. I, of course, was a little sad that my children would not get one. SO, he made all the pieces in Columbus and assembled the chair in Switzerland. He's amazing!!

It's all about the sound

Addilyn has laughed out loud three times now! Each time warms my heart a little more. This video is only for the sound. I was holding Addilyn so she could look down at Arwen and I was stomping my feet at Arwen making her growl. Addilyn thought this was just the funniest thing ever!

Turn up your volume and enjoy the sweet sweet sound of innocent laughter.

I had my first funny spit up story today. Just as I was walking out the door to go to work, I lifted Addilyn up above me and out came the spit-up, gobs of spit-up, all over my shirt. I had to run upstairs to change and then quickly leave for work. When I told my students, they of course thought it was just too funny!

Rockin' it!

Life is going by fast! Right now that is a good thing because I want the month of June to be over with! I've made it through my first two weeks of working and now the end is in sight. My parents come back to Switzerland on Sunday to help my little family out and then two weeks later I'll be NEBRASKA bound!! Yahoo!!

Life is VERY busy from now until then though. Reports are finally finished for school but now we have parent teacher conferences, end of the year parties next weekend, Thomas will be keeping us busy with Herzog parties (the company is ?? years old now), trying to do a little entertaining while my parents are here and squeezing every spare minute I can with Addilyn.

**House update**
We are buying the house! Paperwork is in, bank approves both of us, I will only pay taxes in the U.S. when we sell and if we make a prophet (sigh), and walls go up in July. If everything goes as planned, Thomas and I can move in August 13th or so. It's going to be hard waiting all summer!

Now, I'm dreading August. I will more than likely have a new classroom to prepare, getting ready for the new school year, taking Addilyn to her new daycare a few times and hanging out so she gets used to it and now moving to a new house. Why couldn't some of this happen when I was on maternity leave and feeling oh so bored!!

Here are a few pictures of the house. I'll add more soon!

Our glorious front porch
Untitled

This is a covered part. We still have some more space up here which isn't covered. I say up here because you have to walk up some stairs to get to our house. The grass is at the bottom of the stairs.

This is what I would like to hang from the old beams!

The wall to the left is windows. I'd say the windows are about 12-14 feet high. Beautiful.

The kitchen
Untitled

We are adding another cabinet on the right and then extending the counter out so we can put chairs there and have a little bar seating. SWEET!

Leaving the kitchen
Untitled

Our kitchen table will be in this room. That black thing is a fireplace. The steps to the left lead up the bedrooms. We will be adding another set of stairs to the right of the fireplace. Above the fireplace is actually our closet.

This is to the right of the fireplace.
Untitled

We will put the tv and couches up there. There is a space just like this on the side-we will put up a wall and that will be Addilyn's room.

That's all the pictures I have so far. I will try to take some more but we are adding so many walls that it will change dramatically.

I have to leave for work in about 20 minutes so I'm not going to comment on all these pictures! Enjoy!

Not this weekend

My first week of school went pretty good! Monday was difficult but we both made it. Most days if I rush home right after school, I can still feed my sweet little angel her afternoon bottle. *LOVE*

So, I won't be blogging with fantastic pictures this weekend because I am so busy! Thomas took Addilyn to her Godmother's house today so I could have a quiet house to work on my reports. At my school, we have to write page after page of how the students did in each unit throughout the school year. It's tough. Luckily I did some before my maternity leave and then my co-worker wrote them up for the units she taught. I am trying to put them all together today and get them finished!! I'm not sure why I wanted to come back to school at the busiest time of the year! Sigh. Oh well, hopefully after today I'll be done and I can enjoy the hundreds of parties at school and all my time at home with Addilyn.

So, I better get back to work! I still have 8 more to finish and Thomas is coming home in 30 minutes!

Haley, June 10, 2012 | 0 Comments

Insert nervous giggle here

Today is my last day home with Addilyn. As the day goes on, I'm getting a little more worried, upest, sad, anxious and nervous. Sigh. Only 20 work days left and I get to enjoy one month in Nebraska with Addilyn and then another month in Switzerland with her. I can do this and we'll be fine. (Todays mantra . . . repeat, repeat, repeat.)

So, to get my mind off the subject, I thought I would reminisce about the last week. Thomas is having much needed daddy/daughter time so I have 30 minutes or so until she starts crying and needs mommy. :-)

Last weekend we went on a really long walk along the Aare river. Arwen went to the holiday house with Thomas' parents for the weekend. I don't like to take her along this river because there are always so many other people and dogs, she does better when there are fewer distractions. Our walk was about four hours!

Untitled

Untitled

We were all a little exhausted afterwards.
Untitled

We went to a lake in Sursee, it's in the middle of Switzerland. Crazily enough, we didn't even walk to the lake. We found a nice shady spot and set up camp. We had a picnic and then enjoyed the day.

Untitled

Untitled

Untitled

We needed some bubbly of course!
Untitled

Untitled

Untitled

Then that evening, we went to Rita's birthday party in Sursee. Rita is Thomas' Godmother. Addilyn ate right before we got there, said her hellos and then fell asleep until her next feeding. She must have been exhausted from the day!

Skip ahead a week and Friday was Arwen's birthday! I think she had a good day, Lucie brought her a gift (a frisbee and snacks).

My parents sent her a card (wow!!!! and THANKS), and our little family gave her another frisbee, three tennis balls and a squeaker.

Yesterday we went to the river and enjoyed the weather. My two whitey's stayed in the shade. Arwen and I enjoyed the sun!

Afterwards, Thomas and Addilyn read a story in the yard and I cleaned. Booo!! Thanks for the book Cami!

Addilyn's new stroller. We are still waiting for the car seat attachment, which is now three weeks late! I've decided Addilyn is big enough to sit in the stroller seat, even though she is three months too young. With some towels underneath her bum, she fits perfectly!

Addilyn and Arwen truly like each other.

And the biggest news is . . . . . . . . Addilyn can roll over!! She's done it about six times now from tummy to back. This morning after she woke up we snuggled in our bed together and she rolled from her back to tummy! Although I think she may have "fallen" towards me since I'm a little heavier.
